In the Pits

Series: Jonah's Crazy Journey

In the Pits

September 12, 2021 | Rev. Dr. Chris J. Hayes

Passage: Jonah 2:1-10

Welcome to part 2 of “Jonah’s Crazy Journey.” When Jonah refused to follow God’s path, but tried his own instead, he ended up in a terrible situation full of pain and dread. We too feel like our way might be easier or better than God’s. For a brief moment that might be true, but long-term we will never find fulfilment, joy, or right relationship with our loving God if we go our way instead of God’s way. In this week’s message “In the Pits”, Rev. Dr. Chris J. Hayes explains how even though God didn’t create the pain on Jonah’s path, God was able to redeem it.

Series Information

One of the greatest purposes of Holy Scripture is to show us stories about God’s people that we can learn from throughout history. Jonah was on a journey of faith and life just like each and every one of us. His journey was a bit more dramatic, but his struggles, triumphs, and attitude along the journey gives us great insight into how we should live, and often insight into how we should not live, as we strive to be faithful followers of God’s love.
