CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

Nine Projects. One Result.
Love God. Love People.

First United Methodist Church of Arlington is committed to making guests and members feel welcome from the moment they arrive on our campus. Learn more about how we have already taken steps towards being the church we believe God desires for us to be in our community and world, and what steps remain to achieve this goal.

Prior to the COVID pandemic in March of 2020, we kicked off a $500,000 Capital Campaign targeting the following improvements to our church:

  1. Sanctuary Sound
  2. Sanctuary Video and Production
  3. Children’s Downstairs Improvements
  4. Children’s Upstairs Improvements
  5. Great Hall Video and Production
  6. Wayfinding Signage
  7. Welcome Center
  8. Downstairs Main Hall Bathrooms
  9. Children’s Playground

Although COVID slowed us down, we were able to raise $140,000, and with those funds we were able to complete the first four items on that list. As September approaches, we hope to re-kick off this campaign with a goal of $360,000 to complete the rest of our goals.

For each of the remaining areas considerable work has been completed to fully define the need, identify the scope of work and understand the cost of the improvements. Read on for a brief summary of each area of remaining improvements.

Project 1 & 2: Sanctuary Sound & Video

NEW SCREENS & PROJECTORS

Screens were installed on both sides of the Sanctuary, which allow us to display photos and videos, in addition to elements of worship like hymn lyrics and liturgy, for use in worship and special events. The screens retract when not in use. Two LCD laser projectors were installed along with the screens to provide crisp and clear images no matter what the lighting in the sanctuary is. A large screen reference monitor was added at the back of the room for use by Choir singers and clergy during worship and events.

AUDIO UPGRADES

Our old speakers were removed and replaced with two vertical tower arrays. These allow for sound engineers to adjust and direct the sound in ways that are more appropriate for the complexities of the Sanctuary.

BROADCAST ROOM UPGRADES

We upgraded low quality Sanctuary cameras to Full-HD cameras as well as adding new cameras to feature the organist and pianist. Monitoring and control equipment was upgraded within the broadcast room to allow for increased recording and streaming capabilities.

Project 3 & 4: Children's Renovations - Upstairs & Downstairs

NEW FLOORING

After 25+ years of being very well-loved, the carpet was replaced in the upstairs children’s classrooms for a fresh look.

WELCOME CENTER

A welcome center was created in a central location in the children’s area. This provides parents a safe and efficient way to check children in for Sunday school and stay up to date on news and events!

ROOM REFRESH

Many of the children’s rooms received a fresh coat of paint. Walls were also knocked down and rooms were reorganized for space and efficiency of use.

Project 5: Great Hall Video & Production

COMPLETED AUDIO UPGRADES

We have upgraded room and band equipment to increase mobility, functionality, and ease of use. Speakers have also been updated and replaced.

VIDEO & PRODUCTION

As funds become available, the Great Hall will receive upgrades to its video & production technology to enhance the contemporary service and provide flexibility with video and production needs for all other uses of the space.

This includes upgrading existing projection to allow for better visibility in multiple lighting scenarios and replacing the existing screen. Projection to the reference monitor in the rear of the room will also be improved.

Estimated Cost: $70,000

Project 6: Wayfinding & Hospitality Signage

Attending church is first and foremost an inspirational experience. However, a very close second is the sense of community we get from seeing our friends and meeting new members and guests. The Parlor has served this function for many years but we have greatly out grown its ability to do so in an efficient and welcoming manner. At the intersection of the main hallway and the corridor leading to the Sanctuary, a new space will be created as a Gathering Area for our church. Casual seating, serving areas, and a coffee bar will create a wonderful environment to visit on Sundays and throughout the week.

Estimated Cost: $65,000

Project 7: Gathering Area

Attending church is first and foremost an inspirational experience. However, a very close second is the sense of community we get from seeing our friends and meeting new members and guests. The Parlor has served this function for many years but we have greatly out grown its ability to do so in an efficient and welcoming manner. Casual seating, serving areas, and a coffee bar will create a wonderful environment to visit on Sundays and throughout the week.

Estimated Cost: $70,000

Project 8: Main Hallway Restrooms

The downstairs main hall bathrooms receive a lot of use and have not been updated in some time. As the most used restrooms in the church, the update will provide a much better environment and function for those that visit them. New fixtures, paint, and tile will freshen up these spaces!

Estimated Cost: $75,000

Project 9: Children's Playground

With the children’s program growing by leaps and bounds an update to the outdoor playground area is sorely needed. Planning for safe, practical and functional playground equipment will be employed to best serve our children.

Estimated Cost: $50,000

Ways to Give

We are so grateful to all who have already given towards improving our church’s hospitality to our members and guests. One of our 2024 churchwide initiatives is to complete funding for the capital campaign this year. We ask that you prayerfully consider making a one time or ongoing gift towards this effort. As funds are raised for these improvements, we will continue completing them in order of priority.
