Unexpected Guests

Series: Stories From the Table

Unexpected Guests

January 23, 2022 | Rev. Dr. Chris J. Hayes

Passage: Luke 7:36-50

Often the people who show up in our lives unexpectedly are some of the most influential and important people in our stories of faith. Not only was Jesus surprised by the dinner guest in this scripture story, but everyone else was also surprised and a bit horrified that she was there. Jesus invited them all to recognize the importance of an unexpected guest and to really see what she had brought to the table. How might we really see God’s love in unexpected people and places?

Series Information

There is no better way for us to learn about the amazing presence of God’s love and how we can learn from that love than by looking at the example of Jesus Christ. Jesus was the perfect example of how God loves us and how we are supposed to live as faithful disciples. Looking at the stories of Jesus around the table while he lived here among us gives us insights, learnings, and hope about how we too can be more inviting around the tables in life.
