Volunteer

A willingness to serve is the greatest indicator of a Christ-focused and healthy church. First United Methodist Church of Arlington is committed to providing its members opportunities to serve and share the love of Christ with our neighbors and with people around the world. Below are some of the many ways you can get involved at First UMC Arlington

School Partners

Missions & Outreach

Did you know we have teams who work closely with our school partners? Each school is unique in its needs from packing food, supporting teachers, going on field trips, and cleaning library books. If you'd like to get involved with Kooken, Thornton, or Carter reach out to Pastor Molly.

Ongoing Campus Needs

We have ongoing needs for each campus. When you are out shopping and you see items on sale, pick some up and bring them to COGS or FUMCA so that we can get them to the campus.

Below is a list of ongoing positions we're recruiting for our partnership schools:
Resource Team Member

This team is constantly looking for resources that might benefit the school staff and students from local community organizations and even the AISD website. We’ve learned school staff is so overwhelmed they don’t always have time to peruse for what is available realizing often times things change. Someone who serves in this way will be comfortable to research by phone or computer resources in our area, call and verify resources are available to lighten the burden, to communicate with the liaison team findings and updates to be passed on to school contacts.

The below volunteer positions are needed at each partner school :

School Liaison

This person serves as the primary contact or bridge between school staff and our church. The hope is this will lift burden from overwhelmed school personnel so they have one person to call. This person will be friendly, flexible, organized, excellent listener, creative problem solver, and a clear communicator. An example of this role:

A student loses a button so their pants no longer stay up. The nurse has the number of the liaison (or back up) and explains the situation and agrees to help if at all possible. The liaison then recruits a member of their team or the church staff to deliver the necessary uniform pants for the students success.

Back Up/Co-Liaison

This person is willing to work alongside the liaison and team so if the liaison has other commitments, they can step in to serve in the role.

School Runner

This person is willing to act quickly in response to needs identified and deliver items or support as needed. They will communicate with the liaison and other members to figure out how to best and quickly meet the identified need. Ideally, each school would be supported by a dedicated group of 3-5 people who would then provide leadership should any one-time events occur at their school. These people would be: flexible, kind, responsive, easy access to reliable transportation.

One Time Event Coordinator

As schools identify needs for things (literacy night help, classroom moves, clean up projects) this person will work alongside church staff to provide leadership and organization for these type of one-time events. This person is organized, comfortable leading others, a good communicator, and flexible.

Staff Encourager

This person helps to identify and coordinate ways that the school staff might be encouraged throughout the year – cards, breakfasts, lunches, welcome baskets, small thank you note as identified in conversation with the school liaison and staff. This person is creative and kind-hearted, able to work with a team to accomplish the encouragement task at hand.
