Seeing How to Do No Harm

August 02, 2020 | Rev. Dr. Chris J. Hayes

Passage: Galatians 5:13-17

We all know that not harming one another should be a core conviction of a faithful life, but what we don’t always realize is that we can do harm with actions and with silence and inaction. On this Communion Sunday, Rev. Dr. Chris J. Hayes delivers the message, "Seeing How to Do No Harm". Centered around Galatians 5:13-17, this scripture tells us that doing harm usually comes from selfishness and a lack of seeing others as better than ourselves. Doing no harm and being selfless go hand and hand for people of faith.

Rev. Molly Hayes and Rev. Kay Lancaster join Pastor Chris in leading worship this week, while Sean Hale sings "Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee" and "My Soul Hungered". Opening and closing music includes "Shepherd Me, O God", "Where Charity & Love Prevail", and "Christ, from Whom All Blessings Flow", by Dr. Jamila Javadova-Spitzberg on organ & piano, and Arthur Busby on violin.

In addition to worship, learn how you can be part of Love in Action: Mission Week 2020 from Michelle Clark, Betsy Spencer, and Loni Fancher, as we strive to do no harm, do good, and stay in love with God in our community.

Jesus said if we love God and love neighbor most everything else will fall into line. We also see through our faith tradition that we can best do that if we focus on three simple rules for life, “do no harm, do good, and stay in love with God”
