Prior to his appointment as senior pastor of First United Methodist Church of Arlington, Rev. David Neil Mosser served several parishes including both Georgetown and Graham, TX. David also taught at the Gbranga School of Theology in Liberia, West Africa—an area which the Arlington congregation has a deep mission awareness.
David represents FUMC of Arlington in the community by serving on AMH’s Medical Ethics Committee, as well as the city’s Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area Steering Committee. He also preaches most of the sanctuary worship services and supervises the professional staff.
Besides these primary responsibilities, David also leads Bible studies and lectures in local churches on various ecclesial topics. In addition, he directs preaching workshops for an assortment of judicatory levels of several Christian denominations.
David has received degrees from Southern Methodist University, Perkins School of Theology, and the University of Texas at Austin where he earned a Ph.D. in the academic discipline of rhetoric.
David writes articles and book reviews for a dozen theological journals. His edited collection of stewardship sermons, First Fruits, came out in July 2003. David is also currently editor of The Abingdon Preaching Annual and has edited each edition since 2003.
His new book. Transitions: Leading Churches Through Change, addresses preaching people and congregations through life changes/transitions.
David is an adjunct preaching professor at the Perkins School of Theology and teaches a multicultural “Introduction to Philosophy” at Navarro College (Midlothian, Texas campus).
He married Helen Segerstrom in 1984 and they have three children: Cassie Leann, Robert Ryland, and David Neil, Jr. Mackenzie and Alex are the Mosser’s grandchildren. David and his wife, Helen, live on ten acres in Midlothian, Texas where Helen raises horses. They have three children and two grandchildren.
