What do I do when my child(ren) visits the nursery for the first time and each time after?

TOP
Parents are asked to fill out an enrollment card on each child the first time they attend a nursery class.  This card tells the nursery workers important information they need to know in order to care for your child.

Every Sunday parents are asked to sign-in their child(ren) on the provided sheet.  Parents are also required to fill out a coded label with one section to be placed on your child’s back and the other on his/her diaper bag.  Parents are asked to hold on to the back of the label and provide it to the caregiver to match with the child’s label when picking up the child.

A pager will be assigned to you so that the nursery staff can contact you should the need arise.

What should I bring to the nursery for my child?

TOP
The church recommends that you bring a small diaper bag or sack that contains the following items:
  • One or two bottles, as needed
  • Extra disposable diapers
  • Pacifier, if used
  • Change of clothes
  • Wipes
  • Your child’s favorite comfort item (i.e. blanket)
Please be sure to label all your child’s belongings to ensure they are returned to you.

When might the nursery staff page me?

TOP
Nursery staff may page you if your child shows symptoms of being sick and/or seems to be uncomfortable or is making other children uncomfortable for a period of time.  For nursing mothers, the staff will page you when your child appears to be hungry.  A nursing room is provided for nursing mothers in Room 106A.

What are the church’s toy cleaning procedures?

TOP
We strive to provide a sanitary environment at the church.  Toys are sanitized regularly.  All linens are washed after each use.  Staff members are required to wear latex gloves when changing diapers.

What kind of safety procedures does the church comply to?

TOP
The church follows Safe Sanctuaries guidelines.  The church follows these guidelines in order to provide an environment that is as safe as possible for children, youth, and adults who attend the church and to take necessary precautions to protect church workers.  If you would like more information, you can obtain a Safe Sanctuaries brochure in the church office.

The church conducts quarterly room safety checks to ensure that the rooms, equipment and toys are safe for the children.

Is there adequate supervision in the nursery?

TOP
Each nursery room has at least two paid staff members every Sunday.  Each paid staff member is hired only after a thorough interview and criminal background check.  Our paid staff attends training on church policies/procedures, along with CPR/AED certification.  We strive to have the same caring, consistent staff members in the same rooms each Sunday.

What is the church’s health policy?

TOP
The church is committed to keeping our children healthy and happy.  You can help by keeping your child/children at home if he/she shows any of the following symptoms and/or illnesses:

  • Fever greater than 101.0F (your child should be free of fever for 24 hours)
  • Common cold:  runny nose, sore throat
  • Cough
  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea
  • Questionable rashes or skin infections
  • Scarlet fever
  • Mumps
  • Measles
  • Whooping cough
  • Active Chicken Pox
  • Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis)

If your child exhibits any of these symptoms while in the nursery, the nursery staff will page you to come pick up your child.   If your child is being treated with antibiotics, he/she should be on the antibiotic for at least 24 hours before coming to the nursery.

Please note that nursery staff members are not allowed to give medication of any kind your any child.  If your child has symptoms related to non-contagious allergies, please let the nursery staff know.

Will my child be given a snack while in the nursery?

TOP
Toddlers may be offered a snack (graham crackers and/or Goldfish) unless parents specifically request they not be given any.  They will also be given any drinks provided by their parents.  Babies will be given what is provided in their diaper bags at the time specified by the parents.

What are the church’s emergency procedures?

TOP
Injury
In the event of a non-emergency injury, parents will be paged.  An injury report will be filled out and filed with the church office.

Fire
In the event of a fire, children will be evacuated to the north parking lot.  Parents are to meet children at this parking lot.  Please do not attempt to pick up your child at the classroom, as this will hinder the evacuation process.  Fire procedures are located inside each classroom door.

Tornado
In the event of a tornado, parents are to follow the pastoral instructions.  Children will be taken to the basement.  You may pick up your child in the classroom once they have returned to their room.

How can I help?

TOP
We invite parents to volunteer in the nursery classrooms on a rotating basis.  If you are interested, you can sign up in the church office.

What should I do if I have any additional questions, comments or concerns?

TOP
Our goal is to ensure that parents are comfortable leaving their children in the care of the nursery staff during Sunday school, church services and other events.  If you have any additional questions, comments or concerns, please call the church office at 817-274-2571.
