Volunteer Opportunities

 
Lend a hand and volunteer with FUMC. Below are our volunteer opportunities, ranging from several times and week to several times a year. Contact information is listed below each ministry header. For general questions please contact the church office at 817.274.2571
 
 

Administrative

 
Office Assistant
Volunteer will help prepare church mail outs and/or stuff worship guides during business hours on an as needed basis.

Receptionist
Volunteer will sit at reception desk, answer phones and greet guests during business hours on an as needed basis.

Food Pantry
Volunteer will stock and organize food pantry shelves on a regular weekly basis.

 



TV Ministry

Multiple positions available including:
  • Camera crew
  • Sound board technican
  • Lighting tech
No experience necessary. All training provided by ministry staff.

Caring Ministry

 
  • Visit homebound church members and deliver devotional materials every other month.  Time commitment 2-3 hours.
  • Drive members to doctor’s appointments.  As needed.
  • Prayer shawl ministry.  Knit/crochet prayer shawls for those who are ill or homebound.  First Friday of the month.
  • Make care calls or write notes to homebound members.  Time commitment 1-2 hours/month.

Children's Ministry*

Sensational Journey – Elementary Sunday School Teachers/Shepherds

Sensational Journey is a workshop rotation model Sunday School for children in Kindergarten through fifth grade. Teachers are needed throughout the year for one month teaching commitments. Shepherds are needed to accompany classes to the workshops for 9-month (school year) and 3-month (summer) commitments.

Preschool Sunday School Teachers

Teachers are needed to plan and provide a lesson on Sunday morning Sunday school for the 9:30am hour. We need two teachers per classroom. Teachers are asked to arrive at 9:15am and stay until 9:45am.
Teacher: Commitment is September – May
Summer teacher: Commitment is June - August
Substitute teacher: Commitment is on-going
 

Sunday School Hall Monitors/Greeters

Hall monitors/greeters are needed in the nursery/preschool hallway on Sunday mornings to ensure the safety of our children and to provide guidance to visitors of the church. We need one/two monitor(s) per Sunday morning to be in the nursery/preschool hallway from 9:15-10:45am

Preschool Sunday School Music Coordinator

A music coordinator is needed to lead the preschool classes in music every other Sunday. Commitment is ongoing.

Preschool Sunday School Music Accompanist

A music accompanist is needed to accompany the preschool classes in music every other Sunday. Commitment is ongoing.

Volunteers-In-A-Minute

Volunteers are needed to be “on call” for Sunday mornings and can be contacted at the last minute to help in the nursery/preschool or Sensational Journey elementary age classrooms. Commitment is ongoing.

Seasonal Activities

Volunteers are needed to help plan/facilitate special events for our children (Lent Activities, Children's Christmas Pageant, summer camp leaders etc.). Commitment is scheduled per event.

First Fridays

First Fridays needs volunteers to work one-on-one with special needs children. Other opportunities include supervising the special needs childrens' siblings, providing special entertainment, or leading music (no music training required). Commitment is from 5:30-10:00 PM on the first Friday of each month. No special training required. Dinner is provided and volunteers' children are invited to attend. Commitment is ongoing.

Nursery Council

This council provides programs/activities/events that help provide a safe, loving, and spiritual environment for our nursery and preschool-aged children. The Council meets monthly. Childcare is provided.

Children's Council

This council plans and organizes various children's activities during the year including the Easter Egg Hunt, Pentecost celebration, Vacation Bible School , Family Waterpark Adventure, Children's Christmas Pageant and more. The Council meets on an as-needed basis, approximately every other month.

Vacation Bible School

Approximately 250 children attend First United Methodist's summer Vacation Bible School each year! Volunteers are needed in areas including storytelling, crafts, refreshments, music, teaching and more.

Acolyte Coordinator

The acolyte coordinator trains and schedules 4 – 6 grade acolytes for the three Sunday morning sanctuary worship services. In addition, the coordinator is present just prior to two of the three services to assist the children scheduled to serve.
