  • Arlington Charities:  FUMC supports the local food bank with year-round food collections, clothing donations, and back to school supplies/backpacks.

  • Arlington Life Shelter:  The Life Shelter is Arlington’s primary homeless shelter.  It provides short-term shelter and services that assist the homeless integrate into their own housing and find employment if needed.  FUMC supports the Life Shelter through two dinner teams and two breakfast teams per month.   
o    Volunteer Opportunities:
• Group of 6 or more to cook and serve breakfasts the first two Sundays of the month.
• Individuals to fill in on food teams the 2nd Tuesday of the month or 3rd Wednesday of the month.

• Miscellaneous projects throughout the year such as helping process mailings, teaching classes, helping with the children, etc.

  • Arlington Urban Ministries:  A collaboration of the Arlington United Methodist Churches to provide assistance to individuals or are in transition or crisis through financial assistance, emergency food & toiletries, and spiritual support.
o    Volunteer Opportunities:
• Assist in the AUM office with clerical duties or seeing clients
• Organize a food drive
• Assist FUMC Arlington as we have Christmas in July collecting toys.  Deliver toys to AUM.

  • Disaster Relief Site certified through Red Cross:  FUMC Arlington serves as an emergency shelter site in cases of disaster including hurricane, fire, and tornado.
o    Volunteers are trained through the Red Cross and able to work in the shelter during the disaster.  Other volunteer opportunities include coordinating volunteers, food teams, running errands, etc.

  • First Fridays:  A program designed to provide an evening of respite for parents of special needs children once a month.  A team of volunteers provides childcare the first Friday of each month while parents enjoy a night out with friends and family or tend to home needs.  
o    Volunteer Opportunities:
• Be a playmate to a special needs child or sibling
• Provide a meal for the volunteers
• Provide special entertainment such as storytelling, music, magic tricks, etc.

  • Habitat for Humanity:  An ecumenical partnership of God’s people in building affordable houses to help strengthen neighborhoods.  Both FUMC as a whole and individual Sunday school classes participate in Habitat during the year.

• Construction -- build on a work-site
• Assist with special events

  • Holiday Projects:  During the Christmas season, FUMC has angel trees that benefit local non-profit organizations with toys

• Create tags for the trees & hang them

  • H.O.P.E. Tutoring:  FUMC is one of eight churches that provide free tutoring through HOPE volunteers for Arlington children in grades 4-8 on Tuesday and Thursday of each week during the school year.  
o    Volunteer Opportunities:
• Tutor a child
• Provide snacks
• Donate supplies

  • Kairos Prison Ministry:  Twice a year in the spring and the fall, the Kairos Team participates in a spiritual weekend at the Wichita Falls State Prison.  The men of the team lead and direct bible studies, singing, and other spiritual activities for 40+ inmates.  Other volunteers, men and women, provide prayer support and physical nourishment to the inside team from outside the walls of the prison.  Homemade cookies are used during these weekends to share God’s love.

• Make place-mats or posters
• Join the team either on the inside of the prison in the spiritual groups or outside the prison on the food team.

  • Meet and Greet the Troops:  Volunteers can go on their own or in a group at any time to greet troops who are coming home from their tour of duty or for rest & relaxation.  The troops arrive at Terminal D and parking is reimbursed.  Volunteers shake hands and provide a smile to the soldiers coming off the plane.  The website is listed below for more detailed information.

  • The Safe Haven:  An emergency shelter for women and their children in Arlington who are victims of domestic violence.  FUMC of Arlington supports the Women’s Haven through financial donations, toiletries, hosting the FUN group for 26 weeks during the year and through miscellaneous goods drives.
